Privacy notice
Last updated November 4, 2026
The short version: FindTrivia has no accounts and counts visits without cookies. Our ads come straight from local sponsors and set no cookies. Your location is rounded on your device before it is used, and is never stored on our servers. Besides counting visits, we only keep what you choose to send us through a form.
Your location
- We never ask for your location when a page loads. Your browser asks only after you tap “Use my location”. If you allowed it before, the browser may refresh it quietly on your next visit.
- Before your location is saved or sent anywhere, your browser rounds it to a grid of about one mile (0.02° of latitude and longitude). Our server only ever receives the rounded point.
- The server uses that point to find nearby games for that one request and then forgets it. It is not stored, not logged and never put in a web address.
- If you type a ZIP code or town instead, that is sent to find games and counted in our visit statistics. Links you share contain only the ZIP code or town, never coordinates.
What is stored on your device
To remember where you searched from, the site keeps two items in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device except as described above.
findtrivia.location: the rounded point, the place name shown (such as “Near Hartford”), whether it came from your device or a typed ZIP or town, and when it was saved. A device location is forgotten after 30 days; a typed ZIP or town stays until you tap “Forget”.findtrivia.location-denied: set if you declined location access, so we never try again by ourselves.
To clear them, tap “Forget” next to “Near …” on the search box, or clear this site's data in your browser's settings.
Cookies
We only use cookies the site needs to work: an encrypted session cookie and an XSRF-TOKEN cookie that protects forms from cross-site request forgery.
Our visit statistics use no cookies, and there are no advertising or social media cookies.
Visit statistics
To learn which pages, places and features people use, we count visits with Umami, an open-source statistics tool we run on our own server, so the counts go to no other company. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
- For each page you open it records the page's address without anything after a “?”, the page that linked you here, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country, state and city), which it works out from your IP address.
- Your IP address is not stored. Together with your browser's details it becomes a scrambled visitor code that changes every month, so we can tell visits apart without knowing who you are.
- It also counts a few actions: following a link off the site, such as a venue's website, phone number or directions, or adding a game to your calendar; starting, moving through and sending one of our forms, never what you type into it; and searches, with the ZIP code or town you typed and how many games we found. A search by your location records only that you used it, never the location itself.
- We keep the statistics with no set time limit. Because they don't say who you are, we can't pick out and delete one person's visits.
- Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track don't turn these counts off, because they are not used for ads and we never sell or share them.
Ads
Ads help pay for FindTrivia. They never change which games are listed or their order, and they are always labelled “Advertisement” or “Sponsored by” the advertiser. There are none on the forms or on this page.
- Sponsor ads come from local businesses we work with directly. We host them ourselves and they set no cookies. When you follow one, we add one to that ad's click count for the day so we can tell the sponsor how it did. Nothing about who clicked is kept; to avoid counting the same click twice, a scrambled form of your IP address is held in memory for 30 minutes and then dropped.
Maps
Some pages show interactive maps, such as the map at the top of venue and game pages. To draw them, your browser downloads map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers (tile.openstreetmap.org), which tells the OpenStreetMap Foundation your IP address and the area you are looking at, under the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. The small maps on game listings are pictures we make from OpenStreetMap's maps and serve from our own site.
Submissions and messages
When you add a listing, report a change or send a message, we keep what you enter: your name, email address and phone number if you give them, the listing details and your message. We use them only to review your submission, ask you about it and tell you when it is live. Company contacts may also get a short monthly email asking whether their listings are still accurate.
- We never publish your contact details, sell them or add you to a mailing list.
- The receipt we email after a submission is a fixed message that contains nothing you typed, and we send at most one per address every 24 hours.
- To spot abuse, we store a keyed hash of your IP address with each submission, never the address itself, and delete the hash after 30 days.
- If we turn down a submission, we delete its contact details 180 days later. For approved listings we keep them so we can check the listing with you later; ask us at any time to delete them.
- The forms also use a hidden spam-trap field and limits on how often one connection can send them.
Bot checks (Cloudflare Turnstile)
Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. When it is on, the form pages load it from Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and information about your browser to run the check, under Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum. It does not run on any other page.
Our emails (receipts, “your listing is live” notices and replies) are delivered by an email delivery provider, which handles your email address and the message only to deliver it.
Server logs and backups
Like most websites, our web server logs each request (IP address, time, page and browser type) for security and troubleshooting. The logs are rotated automatically: older entries are overwritten as new ones arrive, and we do not archive them or use them to profile anyone. The visitor location described above is never written to them. Our database, which includes submissions, is backed up nightly to secure off-site storage, and old backups are deleted on a rolling schedule.
Your choices and rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form. We will reply within 30 days. FindTrivia is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
If this notice changes, the date at the top will change too.
